Caspar Friedrich

Chove? Nenhuma chuva cai...
Então onde é que eu sinto um dia
Em que o ruído da chuva atrai
A minha inútil agonia?

Onde é que chove, que eu o ouço?
Onde é que é triste, ó claro céu?
Eu quero sorrir-te e não posso,
Ó céu azul, chamar-te meu...

E o escuro ruído da chuva
É constante em meu pensamento.
Meu ser é a invisível curva
Traçada pelo som do vento...

E eis que ante o sol e o azul do dia,
Como se a hora me estorvasse,
Eu sofro...

Do teu plácido e azul encanto,
Ó claro dia exterior,
Ó céu mais útil que o meu pranto?

Is it raining? No, there's no rain...
Then where do I feel there's a day
In which the sound of rain conveys
The weight of my useless pain?

Where is this rain I hear nonstop?
Where is it sad, o skies that shine?
I'd smile at you but I can not,
O sky of blue, nor call you mine...

And the sound of the rain is dark,
Constant in my imagining.
I am the invisible arc
Incised by the howling wind...

And now before the blue of day,
As if the hour turned a vise,
I suffer... What is light and gay
Falls to my feet as a disguise.

Oh, it rains always in my soul.
Inside of me there's always gloom.
I hear, and someone in me knows,
The sound of rain, a voice of doom...

When will I turn into your hue,
Your placidity, charm and cheer,
O luminous external blue,
Sky more useful than my tears?
